Spirituality is a neglected aspect of rehabilitation. Without simple tools for measuring spiritual health and wellbeing it is difficult to know whether spiritual interventions are effective. There is also a need for structured programs to support goal-setting and next steps in spiritual development, so that spiritual support can be offered more widely in health and social care settings. WELLHEAD addresses the issues of assessment and encouraging spiritual wellbeing. It is a ‘toolkit’ used in a one-to-one interview to offer:
life review, self-evaluation and goal-setting
Measurements of spiritual health are not routinely used in health and social care despite the increasing recognition of the value of holistic and person-centred service delivery, and better awareness of mental health. The WELLHEAD Toolkit offers an accessible way to make assessments and encourage practical next steps. It includes full resources (pictures and words) and a detailed Manual. There is a wide range of potential applications, with facilitators based in safeguarded settings: health and social care professionals, chaplaincy teams, and trained volunteers in faith-based teams, for example.
